Chairman & CEO
Richard S. Kahlbaugh is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fortegra, a DB Insurance company. He has led Fortegra as CEO since 2007 and guided the company through its acquisition by DB Insurance Co., Ltd., completed in May 2026. He also serves as Chairman and CEO of Fortegra's insurance company subsidiaries.
Since Mr. Kahlbaugh joined Fortegra in 2003, gross written premiums and premium equivalents have grown from $140 million to $3.3 billion, a compound annual growth rate of 15%, while revenue grew to more than $2 billion.
He joined Fortegra in 2003 as Chief Operating Officer. Before that, he was President and CEO of Volvo's Global Insurance Group. Earlier in his career, he was the first General Counsel of Walshire Assurance Group, a publicly traded insurer, and practiced law at McNees, Wallace & Nurick.
From 2010 to 2016, he served on the board of Campus Crest Communities, Inc., including as Executive Chairman and interim CEO.
He holds a J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School and a B.A. from the University of Delaware.
